In the season premiere of House of the Dragon, the long-anticipated civil war between the Greens and the Blacks has finally erupted. After the tumultuous events of the first season, the kingdom is divided, and the Targaryen family is torn apart.
The episode opens with the death of King Viserys I, leaving a power vacuum that both factions are eager to fill. Alicent Hightower, Viserys's second wife, and her allies, the Greens, have already crowned her son, Aegon, as king. Aegon, a spoiled and cruel prince, is a far cry from his late father and is seen as unfit to rule by many.
Opposing Aegon's claim is Rhaenyra Targaryen, Viserys's daughter from his first marriage. Rhaenyra, a strong and determined woman, was originally named heir to the throne but was passed over in favor of Aegon. Now, she is determined to fight for her birthright, with the support of her allies, the Blacks.
As the two sides prepare for war, loyalties are tested, and alliances are formed. The episode ends with a stunning battle scene, setting the stage for a bloody and unforgiving conflict that will shape the future of Westeros.
