Krejcikova wins her maiden Wimbledon title with victory against Jasmine Paolini
Czech Barbora Krejcikova emulated mentor Jana Novotna as she won her maiden Wimbledon title with a victory against Jasmine Paolini in a thrilling final. Krejcikova, who won the French Open in 2021, fought back from a set down to claim a 6-2 2-6 6-4 victory on Centre Court.
Krejcikova wins in three sets
Krejcikova, the 14th seed, made a confident start and raced through the first set in just 30 minutes. However, Paolini, the unseeded Italian, fought back strongly in the second set and levelled the match.
The deciding set was a tense affair, but Krejcikova held her nerve to break Paolini's serve at 5-4 and serve out for the championship. The victory is Krejcikova's second Grand Slam title and her first at Wimbledon.
