Lawmakers Give Bill To Governor

Kentucky's New '2nd Amendment Sanctuary' Law

Lawmakers Give Bill to Governor

LEX 18—Kentucky lawmakers have passed a "2nd Amendment Sanctuary" bill and sent it to Governor Andy Beshear for his signature. The bill, which has strong support from Republicans who control the state legislature, would prohibit state and local law enforcement agencies from enforcing any federal gun laws that conflict with Kentucky law.

Personal Exchange Between Candidates

Governor Beshear, a Democrat, has been a strong advocate for gun control measures. He has called for universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons. In one of the most personal exchanges of their campaign for governor, Beshear confronted his Republican opponent, Attorney General Daniel Cameron, about his support for the "2nd Amendment Sanctuary" bill. Beshear's closest friend was killed in the Louisville mass shooting earlier this spring.

Conversation on Gun Reform Reignited

The school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, has reignited the conversation on gun reform in America. Beshear is using his personal experience to push for stricter gun laws, while Republicans have largely opposed such measures. The passage of the "2nd Amendment Sanctuary" bill is a sign that the divide over gun control is unlikely to be resolved anytime soon.
