Mondo Duplantis Breaks His Own World Record
Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis broke his own world record on Tuesday, August 9, 2021, at the Tokyo Olympics. Duplantis cleared a height of 6.19 meters (20.3 feet), surpassing his previous record of 6.18 meters (20.2 feet), which he set in February 2020.
Western-Webb Wins Surfing Gold
Australian surfer Stephanie Gilmore won the women's surfing gold medal on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at the Tokyo Olympics. Gilmore defeated South Africa's Bianca Buitendag in the final, becoming the first surfer to win three Olympic gold medals.
Breakdance Joins Paris Olympics
Breaking (breakdancing) will be added to the Olympic program for the 2024 Games in Paris, the International Olympic Committee announced on Monday, June 28, 2021. Breaking is a street dance style that originated in the Bronx, New York City, in the early 1970s.
