Florida Tropical Storm Update

Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Gulf Coast of Florida

National Weather Service Issues Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for much of the Gulf Coast of Florida, including coastal and inland Sarasota. Tropical storm conditions are expected within the next 24 to 36 hours.

Forecast

The disturbance is forecast to become a tropical depression by Saturday morning once it emerges out over the water between Cuba and Florida. It is then expected to become a tropical storm by Saturday night or Sunday morning.

What to Do

Residents in the watch area should monitor the storm's progress and be prepared to take action if necessary. This may include securing loose outdoor items, filling up gas tanks, and having a plan to evacuate if ordered by local authorities.

Terminology

Tropical cyclone is the generic term that covers all tropical systems, including tropical depressions, tropical storms, and hurricanes. Tropical storm force winds are typically between 39 and 73 miles per hour.
